In pursuit of even greater development, Keio SFC is attempting to open a whole new world. Considering the fact that prevalence of ubiquitous society means technologies becoming a part of our environment, how will the subsequent social systems be designed and how should it be implemented?

This new, real world forces us to reconsider the social systems such as the elucidation of genetic information and tacit knowledge, the ideal form of cognition and communication surrounding the interaction between the modern self and the network and that of bureaucracy and democracy. Furthermore, a variety of environmental problems, of which nothing can be said without global perspective, from the nearby natural environment to environmental conservation on a global scale, will have to be re-examined. These are the critical, "now or never" issues of the 21st century, and it is expected that Keio SFC will rise to the challenge of how they should be addressed.

Having said the above, we now present the SFC Open Research Forum 2004.

Today, unknown information and environments are emerging in such a profusion of styles that it is impossible to get hold of even a glimpse of them. This is due to the information technologies that are undoubtedly, even forcibly, dragging our era forward. Researchers and students at SFC, who have inherited "SFC genes", are attempting to make proposals for reconstruction of the world by making presentations, and demonstrations of their research achievements and experiments utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at the SFC Open Research Forum 2004. We invite you to work out how the Keio SFC's leading edge research projects are heralding the new era. In addition, during the debates, panelists renowned for their sharp and intellectual speeches and writings will identify problems and clarify points of contention with regards to the 12 worlds in the 21st century. They will then divulge structures hidden behind these presenting issues, and further develop policy in order to surmount them.

The SFC Open Research Forum 2004 is an experimental event that provides us with opportunities to materialize our hypothesis for the future.
Let us work together at the SFC Open Research Forum 2004 through diverse interactions to create sensibilities suitable for the 21st century.
