True to founder Yukichi Fukuzawa's motto of jitsugaku, or empirical science, Keio University promotes creative research spanning diverse fields in addition to traditional academic research. Within this framework, the Keio Research Institute at SFC has positioned itself as the "Campus to Architect the Future." Free of the boundaries of conventional academic fields, a diverse array of specialists gather to conduct the latest research.

At SFC, a forum called the "Open Research Forum" (ORF) is held to release research results to the public. Exhibitions, demonstrations and symposiums at this forum are held based upon the belief that one of our important social responsibilities include contributing the benefits of research results back to society. This forum introduces the current status and future planning of research projects at the Keio Research Institute at SFC to business, government and other public offices, municipalities and academia. This fostering of cooperative relationship among business, government and academia strengthens the relationships between organizations, bringing them closer together.
