Outline

The xSDG Laboratory was established in October 2017 to solve problems in our diverse and complex society from the perspective of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The xSDG Consortium has been established as a part of the xSDG Laboratory’s activities and has solicited participation from companies and local governments. The xSDG Consortium will create advanced cases and best practices using SDGs and aims to expand by disseminating that information from Japan to the world.

Objective

To create best practices of actions that help achieve SDGs.

Activities

1) Providing and exchanging information regarding SDG-related policies and the latest trends concerning their implementation

  • Provide and exchange information concerning SDGs such as international trends, their domestic implementation, indicators, and policy trends

2) Providing and sharing knowledge on SDGs actions

  • Conduct joint research and use that research to create best practices for promoting SDGs
  • Promote research to produce solutions by linking SDGs with issues such as IoT and regional revitalization
  • Establish subcommittees to create (cross-industry) standards, targets, and actions that go beyond conventional boundaries
    – Set up subcommittees to deepen discussions leading to solutions and actions (preceding examples are a subcommittee on SDGs-based standards creation [gradual authentication] and financial guidelines, etc.)
    – Consider targets for 2030 by field
  • Create opportunities for collaboration
    – Generate best practices and methodologies for responding to SDGs by creating opportunities for collaboration

Results

  • Publication of annual reports
  • Publication of books regarding best practices of SDGs
  • Accomplishments made at the subcommittee (ex: SDGs guidelines and authentication standards by field, targets by field, etc.)
