Objective
Commissioned by domestic and overseas corporations and local governments, this laboratory will research a physical design that comprehensively regenerates the natural ecosystem and social culture within specific cities and localities. The aim is to propose implementable plans and programs. The following four guiding principles will be used within this research.
- “Sustainable urban environment design from a global perspective”
Give due consideration to the intimate relationship between sustainable regional structure and international cooperative partnerships while exploring measures to improve the environment from a global perspective. - “Environmental symbiotic design enabling co-existence between the local community, the cultural context, the ecosystem and the climate”
Along with not only reducing environmental burden, nurture awareness toward environmental reconciliation by promoting the active contact and building of relationships between local society and an individual’s daily life, and the local ecosystem. - “Environmental creative design that creates innovative value by discovering a lifestyle that exceeds all preconceived notions”
Rather than being limited to an analysis of the current situation or trying to improve that situation, based on concrete plans derived from a radical change in the way of thinking, the aim will be to generate concrete proposals that open up new domains and generate new value within the living environment. - “Environmental information design that approaches environmental issues by applying the latest in information technology”
Investigate and pursue technology that links smart controls with the most appropriate positioning of monitors for urban and construction environmental information leading to a reform in the relationship between the environment and mankind.
Outline of research plan (1st year)
A number of related research projects will be conducted at the same time and the cases scheduled for the first year are as follows.
- Research on mature healthy living model for “Longmen Tang” Village – Eco-cultural Village
Plan and propose new hot spring village management providing a lifestyle that promotes health in order to deal with the future issue of aging in Chinese society - Research on incorporation of new functions so as to improve the international competitiveness of Marunouchi – Eco-cultural Core
Consider the incorporation of new functions aimed at increasing international competitiveness within Marunouchi, one of Japan’s biggest business districts - Next-generation eco-city international strategy research – Eco-cultural City
Consideration of strategies to deploy leading-edge environment-related industrial technologies owned by Japanese companies in the development of international communities
