Objective

Around the year 2013, Japan will become a “Super Aging Society”, with people age 65 and over accounting for 25% of the population. On the other hand, the dissemination of advanced information technology is resulting in the creation of an IT Society, with our lives centered around the Internet and a variety of computing technologies. The objective of this laboratory is to establish and advance the care environment by utilizing IT with this as a backdrop. Specifically, the Lab is working on promoting communication between caregivers (including family), doctors, nurses and other specialists and the people receiving the care, as well as the provision of a lot of detailed information on care. We are also working on the establishment of social systems, laws and management methodologies for these activities in general. On the other hand, since the range of responsibilities of this laboratory is very diverse, the specialists and resources on and off campus must be utilized in an effective manner. Therefore, the other objective of this laboratory is the creation of cross-over research groups and the effective utilization of consortiums.

Outline of research activity plans

  • First Year :
Evaluation of technologies and methodologies that will form the foundation of Healthcare InformaticsThe e-Care Town Project and other research projects related to medicine, welfare, care giving and nursing being conducted at the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies and Graduate School of Media and Governance as well as outside the campus will be verified. This will enable items, matters and themes on which research should be conducted to be examined, and facilitate clarification of technology and methodology that will form the foundation of Healthcare Informatics.
  • Second Year :
Research on the enhanced care environment utilizing Healthcare InformaticsCombining technologies and methodologies in a valid way, utilize the first year results to establish the care environment utilizing IT envisioned by this laboratory and start management of this environment. Since this is the last year of the e-Care Town Project, the results of this project will be actively applied in order to further advance them. Furthermore, a fresh look will be taken at areas that were not addressed by the e-Care Town Project (for example, child welfare, care for sick children and medical treatment in the home) in order to clarify the final goals concerning the creation of a complete and full care environment.
  • Third Year :
Modeling and verification of regional medicine based on Healthcare Informatics
Following up on the results of research in the first year and second year, efforts will be implemented to further advance the reliable care environment to ensure it is capable of providing support for people in each municipality or regional unit.
