Objective

Geo-informatics is research field that recognizes natural, social or human phenomena that occur on the earth by actively utilizing GIS and RS technologies. It expresses such phenomena in a variety of measurements including analysis of the earth, land, regions, cities or districts, and suggests changes to the land surface based on those measurements. Lastly, Geo-informatics seeks to create a methodology for consensus-building, planning and policy development using modeling or simulation of the phenomena. In particular, this laboratory aims to build a sustainable society with the urban and environmental problems facing it, we need to establish a digital earth as a metaphor for the earth. This digital earth must be able to handle vast amounts of space information and express the earth in 3-D or as a time-series over multi-resolutions in real-time.

laboratory aims to research the establishment of a digital earth and its utilization. Specifically, we aim to:

  1. Develop mutually operable Internet GIS technology (GI Systems);
  2. Develop modeling and simulation technologies on various phenomena in space (GI Sciences) and;
  3. Research on communication, consensus building and policy-development using the digital earth (GI Services)
