Objectives

The “Grand Hope” of many people is to live a life in which they meet many others, improve their own capabilities through these encounters, and gain a purpose through dedication to their fellowman. Demonstrating an aptitude for serving society brings happiness, opportunity and prosperity. To live such a life, it is essential to develop new methods and an environment for life-long learning that will help us communicate with people from different generations and regions and continue to learn happily.

One of the objectives of this laboratory is to conduct basic research, and develop and execute these ideals with the aim of creating, implementing and improving on such methods and environments toward life-long learning in a global networking society. Another main objective is to be the leader in the area of life-long learning in this global era. The laboratory will offer proposals and conduct development with regard to learning methodologies that involve communication and interaction in a global networking society, in order to provide learning opportunities for children and students, as well as those from older generations and various regions. To realize these objectives, the laboratory’s goal is to conduct basic research into the area of the cognitive and brain sciences with regard to communication and learning through networks, and the development of infrastructure and the contents of learning methods, based on the output of the basic research.

Outline of the Research Activity Plan

  1. Basic research into cognition, learning, emotions and communication

Conduct basic research based on cognitive science, a study to back up the execution of education, and study support

  2. Basic research into life-span development in a global networking society

Understand the changes in learning content, methods and environments brought about by the development of global networks, and study future essential platforms based on this development

  3. Research into learning methods and support methods for learning

Conduct research into methods of “learning how to learn” and support methods for this kind of learning
