Objectives

The objective of this Laboratory is to implement joint research with SFC (Faculty of Policy Management, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, Graduate School of Media and Governance, and Graduate School of Health Management) and Shonan Keiiku Hospital, adjacent to SFC, in order to develop, verify and promote utilization of a system that will contribute to next-generation healthcare.

It is forecast that Japan will rapidly become an aged society in the future. For this reason, maintaining the health of the elderly and curbing medical expenses are huge issues for Japan. The majority of medical practice is currently being done within hospitals and doctors’ clinics. On the other hand, the Internet has spread to every corner of our life and various vital measurements can be taken at home and video-phone calls utilized. Taking this social background into account, a total review of medical care in the ICT era will be conducted, research and development verified, social receptivity reviewed, and utilization of the resulting system promoted.

Outline of Research Activity Plan (2016)

As Shonan Keiiku Hospital is still in the preparatory stage, concrete development and verification will not be conducted, but a concept for next-generation healthcare developed. From the perspective of the number of hospital beds and cost of medical care, in Japan patients are discharged as soon as possible after recovery. On the other hand, patients often feel insecure and want some type of follow-up after being discharged. Based on this situation, the Laboratory will examine cooperation between home and hospital and a potential system structure to handle this. Verification plans to be put in place once the hospital is up and running will also be formulated.
