Outline
In preparation for the super-ageing society, a wide range of research, focusing on the theme of “health” has been conducted in many countries around the world. This global commitment will bring new perspectives in the area of “health” studies, and the knowledge acquired through such studies will be very effective in maintaining health conditions and the prevention of ageing. As a result, we can expect to see greater control over medical and care costs in society as a whole.
The Health Science Lab (HS Lab) was established in order to take the lead in these important endeavors in our role as advanced ageing country. This laboratory promotes research in the area of “health” and educates the human resources that will play an important role in relating its research achievements to society. In addition, it will conduct research into the establishment and industrialization of social infrastructure making use of the research findings.
Activities
- Promotion of research in the area of “health” in order to better relate research achievements to societyThrough the integration of existing research results from both the medical and other departments and SFC’s resources and research results (e.g. information technology, agriculture, laser, and social system design), the laboratory promotes research and development that can be adapted for use in actual society.
Research Themes (Examples):- Development of non-invasive biopsy devices, and the study of health promotion programs that utilize those devices
- Maintenance of food factor data base
- Research into cultivation methods for crops that contain high levels of nutritious properties that are good for health, and the development of recipes using those crops
- Development of health coaching programs for corporate organization in line with the results of the above-mentioned research
The laboratory will also develop a research base in SFC to promote these studies.
- Education of human resources that will play an important role in adapting research achievements for use in societyThe HS Lab promotes research in the area of “health,” and also develops an education program to foster those human resources that will represent future management in this area in organizations or in society. The program, once developed, will be aggressively utilized in SFC curriculums and also offered to organizations, such as companies.
- Establishment of social infrastructure and the industrializationThe laboratory actively studies how research results in the area of health can be adapted for use in society and how social infrastructure should be designed in this regard (including studies in laws and regulations) and supports municipalities and other organizations to establish such infrastructure. It also conducts the maintenance of a “health” database for utilization in a variety of infrastructure so that research results can be adapted through such infrastructure.
